Civil Recording (aka Civil Audio) is the premiere private recording studio in North Texas.

Owned and operated by award winning producer and engineer Michael Briggs, Civil is the best place to come to see your song come together and go to the next level. The studio is intimate in size but big in possibilities. Michael is a very flexible and versatile engineer and no matter what you have in mind we can make it happen.
Located in the heart of beautiful Denton, Texas (about 40 mins north of Dallas), the studio is easy to get to and only about 30 mins from DFW airport. Denton is a great small city with 2 major colleges including the University of North Texas which had the world first jazz studies degree and is known as one of the best music schools in the country. UNT and it’s students is a big part of where the rich and unique local music scene in Denton comes from and also serves as a great resource for world class session players for all instruments should your music require them. I have a top quality roster of session player that I work with regularly and together we can put that professional touch on your song that really makes it shine.
The Recording Process
Civil is capable of both full band live tracking to emulate the old school analog experience as well as the modern single instrument overdub approach. It is very common for bands here to record the basic tracks all live together in the same room, focusing on getting a great drum take, and then either keeping the live tracks if they were great or punching in and redoing bits here and there or we can fully overdub and replace. It’s very flexible. The amps are in a separate room to provide full isolation so there is no bleed with the drums.
We will then overdub and layer as much as is desired to get it to either be straight forward and raw, polished and perfect or somewhere in between.
Gear
Civil is a full stocked recording studio with just about everything you could need and if we don’t have something we can find it.
There are more than 20 guitars of various types and specialties. Every guitar here has a purpose and special application without being redundant. We also have an excellent selection of bass guitars and a whole wall of guitar pedals.
Civil has a quality studio drum kit that features 2 Dialtune snares (both maple and brass). These are top of the line cable tuned snares that both sound amazing and stay in tune no matter what. There is also a healthy collection of cymbals that you are more than welcome to use.
Coffee
It’s become a known fact that Civil has the best coffee in town. I have roasted my own coffee for many years and always have a good selection of top quality coffees from around the world available for bands. My personal favorites are light roast Ethiopia and Kenya. Pour over coffee and espresso is of course available for bands at no charge.
Lodging
The studio lounge area has a bed as well as a pull out couch that can potentially serve as lodging for out of town bands based on availability. Let’s discuss this together and see if this is a good fit for you. Staying at Civil can save big on hotel costs.

I love to work with all genres and bands of all experience levels. It’s always a pleasure to work with new bands on their first recording and give them a great experience and a good taste for the studio as well as to work with more experienced pro bands of all types.
